Description
During WWI officers would blow a whistle and thousands of men would stream out of an attacking trench and run across No Man’s Land into a hail of machine gun bullets and artillery fire from the enemy. This copy whistle is dated 1916, the year of the ill dated Somme campaign. It has a arrow stamped on it which was used to show the whistles were the property of the British Empire
